Far from shallow show
by Frank Ruhrmund
From its title Swimming in the shallows – a line borrowed from the American song More Yellow Birds – to its mix of landscapes and female figures studies that are not what they may at first appear to be, there is much to intrigue in the exhibition by Falmouth-based Jamie Boyd currently being held in Cornwall Contemporary, Penzance.
- November 2008
Voices of War
Exhibition of War art at the Poly and Gallery 49 Falmouth with Cpl Martin Webster
-
An exhibition of war art which brings the War in Iraq to the doorstep of the Cornishman.
Mike Varney, Mayor of Falmouth, said: " Brilliant and very moving."
Jamie Boyd displays a civilian's point of view of war.
Using history books and newspapers he has illustrated how the media responded to stories of war victims, survivors, hostages, terrorists, collaborators and soldiers.
Through public support the exhibition has been extended, and will continue at Gallery 49, High Street, Falmouth.

Embark
Sunbeam Hall
Solo show on board the King Harry Ferry, Cornwall
- These are probably the last studies of boats at Sunbeam Hall boathouse, Falmouth Wharves. The last remaining deep water working wharves left in Falmouth outside the docks, but are scheduled for demolition and housing development. The boat builders and artists working there are part of a community group who oppose demolition of the historic site. The exhibition juxtaposes paintings of out of season boats in the setting of the busy river Fal, giving a glimpse of Wharves life which may soon disappear.
